ramblings or musings or something

1600-august01-2003
so i've had a post brewing for a while, and so i didn't forget two major themes i actually wrote them down in a notebook. could this be the start of something new? writing out posts just randomly and bringing them together here?! the creation of a REAL niv journal, with lined pages and everything? we'll see, or more accurately, i'll see and let you know.

anyways, i didn't exactly plan out this post, so its going to bounce around, and you might get whiplash reading it. i don't take any responsibility for physical damage that happens as a result of reading this (including stabbing out your eyes or possible aneurysms due to my idiocy). consider yourself warned.

two days ago i was leavin work, and i got to the escalator and ran into 3 guys - clearly all mid-management types, none of them were techies at least (there are only so many types of people at monster.com). i noticed how they talked to each other, what they talked about, how they said bye and hello... and i noticed that there was a lot of similarities to how i act around people i don't know very well in how they acted. and then i got scared, cuz these guys were in their upper-20s lower 30-s (i'd guess), and all of a sudden i realized that i'm going to be just like every other adult. i'm gonna be that guy listening to rock radio and saying "it used to be better" and i'll have the random music that kids will think is lame and i'll act awkward around anyone younger than 20 and it goes on and on. i think i had a mid-life crisis when i saw what might/may/will probably happen to me. think about that. now think about it again.

i was listening to the jane's addiction cd (i know, i know, just listen to it and you'll understand why i listen to/talk about it so much) and i decided that track 6 - superhero - is going to be the next single. then i thought that it'd be cool that odds came out on what the second single would be. track 3 - just because - was the first single, and given what the first single is like and what track it is, making odds on the 2nd single (the first one that comes out after the cd itself comes out) would be possible and interesting, i think. would anyone bet on what the second single of a given album would be? i mean, you'd have to listen to the album in question before you could guess (sorta like how you have to look at lots of younger male british actors before you can guess who will be the next james bond).

elscorcho 5.5 (thats the official version number) will be rolling out at some point soon - i have a LOT of work to do still before i can finalize it - its more tedious than difficult. i realized, when working on updating some pages, that i've learned a lot from this site, and i think it helped me get the job at monster (during my interview it came up at least 3 times).

hawkblog (chad's term, i like it more and more, i might even change things on this site to reflect my liking of this term) is getting a little more professional. i know some of you guys have checked it out, and i'm glad, and i hope its interesting for you guys. if you haven't checked it out, go ahead and please do.

... this is why i need to write more things down - i had like 4-5 more things i wanted to talk about, and now i don't remember. now that i think about it, i'm sure 3 of the things had to do with animal crossing, but i'm guessing most of you already think i'm fucking nuts about that game, so i won't get into it. all i have to say is this - i'm spending precious little time saturday and sunday away from boise and padre island, my animal crossing creations. like, dinner and maybe a game of rise or two, and partay.

speaking of which - i'm gonna have a lot of fun pictures coming up on sunday. that's a prediction based entirely on the planned events for tonight and tomorrow night.

finally: happy birthday reyna!! she's hit the big 2-1!

I just thought I would point out, as Geoff and I just discussed in our newly arranged and ready to live in room that you need to visit next year, niv, that if I had said two or three years ago "Niv is currently listening to Eve 6 and Guster," you probably would have tried to kill me for disgracing your musical taste. When did this change come about?

also, i was just listening to the new singles by both those bands, and furthermore i liked the first eve 6 cd - and the aphex twin cd give me some of my cred back, right?

i have no problem with your music choices. personally, i like eve 6 a lot. Their lyrics are awful, and the music is pretty basic, but its all quite enjoyable. and as far as getting cred back goes, you never had any to begin with. you just used to like different music, so i guess the aphex twin cd gives you some of your "i like different music" back.

as me and niv share many musical tastes, mainly the little known Matthew Good Band and Third Eye Blind, I am down with what he is down with. FYI Niv, Guster is playing a concert at my schools gym in the first week of september. I am not sure that I will listen to either of those CDs, b/c as Niv stated in an earlier response, I don't want to sell out by listening to Guster as it is one of the cool things to do at GW. Meanwhile I have been in a rut with live Pearl Jam and Radiohead sets (so good), a little hard rap, and depressing emo that makes me feel bad about myself but sounds so good (mainly Taking Back Sunday, Face to Face, All American Rejects, and Dashboard). Shit, did I say Dashboard, maybe I did sell out. Save me Niv.

What I meant by my last response is: while i might not listen to Eve 6 or Guster, I won't knock the musical selctions. sorry, i'm not a talker

eh, rolling stone liked it. and i gotta make sure everyone knows - i was just listening to the new singles by guster / eve 6. just the singles. well i listened to the whole eve 6 album and it was ok (following the pattern chad outlined above). didn't listen to the guster album, because it scares me. remember, guster is a bunch of frat guys from tufts.

i never thought i'd see the day. or live the day. whatever. eve 6 is a guilty pleasure to us all, though, so quit pretending guys. i think i already act awkward around younger kids. i saw some shows earlier this summer and there were all these punk 15 year olds with holes all over their bodies and i really felt like someone's dad.
