so you might have heard that i went to new york city. this would be true. it happened a while ago, and i never got to posting about it because i've had 2 other "trip-related epic" posts, and one was great and the other was suck. i'm not promising anything, just the straight dope.
our car - nick, ken, urs, me. other car - parker, phil, thad, asian. my car and parker's car were the victims. there was a last second move to put phil in my car and nick in the other car, which i vetoed. i also set a huge precedent - asian and phil must be in the same car together, so that nobody dies. i think it is a good precedent.
i drove first shift, down to the mass-conn border. i wanted to stop at one point before we got all the way to the border, but everyone in the other car decided to let phil be in charge of the phone, so they didn't answer, and we got screwed. eventually we just stopped on our own at a sbarro's, and we ate. got back on the road, passed them (as they stopped at a burger king), so we
were ahead of them... and then we pulled over again (bathroom/candy) and they kept going - again, no answer on the phone.
now this doesn't seem like a big deal, but when they got lost in nick's neighborhood because they didn't want to follow us and instead wanted to drive 90 down the highway, thus making us sit outside nick's house instead of sleeping inside nick's house, you can see why we were slightly annoyed.
also we got screwed out of food at the first stop. no food make cranky peeps.
i was really sleepy after the conn border, so i was in the back (nick drove) and basically asleep. i faded in and out. mcis was on, which made me happy. yay!
we got to nick's house around midnight maybe? i don't really remember. all i know is his house is friggin gorgeous. it's just so well put together, well-decorated, nice, everything. i dunno. its really amazing.
ok i'm done with all THAT. just suffice it to say that it was a very nice house.
and the food was good too.
we got up between 8 and 9, somehow we got to the train at 10:30. it was a miracle, and a great show by everyone. no one held us down. we even got to hang with phil's dad for a little bit (big tangential story here, but its not really important, so don't worry). sooo we take the train down, and we get to nyc by around 11:30. yay! we're in new york.
god new york smells bad. the whole damn place stinks. why? i don't know. it just does. smells terrible everywhere, even upper east side. once we got to new york, some people took bags to be dropped off at nick's brother's house. thad, urs, ken, and myself walked from penn station up to around 50th (consuming coke along the way, thank god). we decided we were done with the walking around 50th or 51st and so we got on the subway, took it out to yankee stadium, where we met back up with phil/parker/nick/asian. yankee stadium has lost its mystique with me since i've been there once. it smells bad and the seats suck and there is nothing really defining about the dimensions or the layout of the seats - the only thing cool is the monument park thing. our seats were right behind the monument park flagpole in center, which sucked (go look at photos), but it worked out so we could see everything. pettite and meche were both amazing, meche won out, mariners won 2-1. all quite fun and good. surprisingly, urs (wearing her boone shirt) got little to no harassment. perhaps because she is so hot.
anyways, we go back from the game and we go buy nick's bro's place to get our bags. nick's brother is cool. his place is nice too. his roomie is a browns
fan, so i'm happy.
urs and i get our bags and take the subway up to my cousin tushar's place (70th and york or something). it was good to see him and fun to hang out with him
and sarah (his wife). they are awesome. so smart. it's kind of mind-blowing. we went to a mexican restaurant (unfortunately, sarah got paged after the appetizer). i had filet. it was from up above. sooo thin, sooo tender,
melted in my mouth. i was stunned. i did not know steak could be THAT good.
the guacamole at the place was solid too.
after dinner, we went to some fancy world-famous place (whos name i forgot) so i could get some macaroons. god i love those little cookies. i think i had some creme brulee too. man, this trip was nuts.
so after consuming all that food, urs and i took the train back down to around 30th street and met up with everyone else.
wait, i forgot some stuff.
phil went to jersey. he's gone home now.
during the time i was at dinner or walking around with my cousin, i got called ... 5 times i'd say, by my friends who were all a differing shade of drunk, from nick / asian (trashed out of their gourd at 6) to thad (slightly tipsy when he called), i got the whole spectrum. it was kind of embarrassing, to be honest.
so yeah, eventually we got back down to nick's brother's apartment. we found passed out asian, drunk since 5 and thus tired nick, getting drunk quickly ken and thad, and nick's bro who was fine. i don't understand how nick's brother got asian and nick destroyed while remaining fine himself. it really does say something about asian and nick, doesn't it. hehe.
yeah, so we got the troops together (other than asian, who was just a lost cause) and we went down the street to eric stern's apartment. in case anyone was wondering, he's doing very well, and his place is fucking nice.
feinberg was there.
feinberg tried to rape me, i think. he also tried to kill me.
the night was kind of a blur, but it was decent. got to see stern, sat around, it was fine.
urs and i took a cab back uptown (in the pouring friggin rain), and crashed out for the night.
we met up at penn station around 11, got to nick's around noon. again, amazing food, very nice house, and brownies galore! ken decided to throw a brownie in the sink for no reason, but other than that, it was excellent.
the drive back was fine, i was crashed out in the back seat after we left jersey (i'm a real big bum), but we got home fine, without much incident. it was real stormy at first, and it took 2 hours to leave stupid jersey. but yeah, not much else.
so, it was a fine weekend, not much happened, but stuff happened, and it was good. other than nyc smelling, it was pretty good.
foxwoods was more fun though, to be honest.
