holla'ing back?

1005-january29-2004
hey everyone. i hope your life is swell.

ryan's back! kerry kicked lots of ass and now he's going to have a job and shit and also he's in the best mood ever... but its frightening, cuz he's a tad bit obsessive. i mean, ryan? who woulda thunk it?

semester is off to a rockin start. i've had 2 days of classes (M and W... its nice, in case you were wondering). i've missed 2 classes out of a total of 6. i slept through my first one on wednesday, and then i got late to the second one on wednesday and the room was jam-packed and lecture had started already so i just left. we needed to get some liquid plumber for the tub anyways, so i just went off to target.

is that weird?

should be a nice weekend coming up, i guess. i'm running on very very little sleep right now, like i'd say 3.5 hours if i was feeling generous. usually anything less than 10 hours leaves me kind of groggy, so... yeah. luckily my boss took the day off and i hate my current project cuz it doesn't work as it should so i might take off slightly early. oh well?

so right now i'm just waiting for geoff to wake up so i can bother him. spring break shit with him is finalized, i'll be down in winter haven checking out indians spring training and all their sweet young talent that will make us a playoff contender sooner than anyone thinks... mmm... well anyone other than me, i guess. hehe.

i've resolved some stuff with girls. i think. i dunno, despite crazy girl things going on, and just general craziness, i definitely know that i'm not the same nivvles that was around freshman year going crazy and writing insanely hilarious slash bitingly mean things. i mean, i could write those things, but i'm in a different place. i'm pretty sure i can handle almost anything at this point. i said almost.

so, thus far, biggest surprise of the semester has to be phil's performance. i mean, no one could have seen this coming. it's kinda like the improvement in the daily show when jon stewart took over for kilborn, if that makes sense (geoff gets it). i just hope it keeps up all this semester, cuz its incredibly fun right now. you hear that phil? it's fucking fun!

finally, just so everyone knows, the new incubus cd elicits two responses from me (exactly two.):

1a) it's fucking good
2b) it's pretty ballsy, because it doesn't sound like any other incubus cd at all. they totally just went in a new direction, and usually when bands do that they alienate their original fan base and don't really attract the new fans cuz its really hard to overcome 3-4 albums of preconceptions with one album thats totally different, if you know what i mean. this is all very unfortunate, because of 1a - i hope people like this incubus... i'm going to see what rolling stone has up for their review...

well some user gave it a 4.5, which is probably near what i'd give it, if i was constrained by some sort of 5 star system. since i am not, i'll give it 7 tamales. out of what? out of fuck you.

in very general terms i'm here to say this site rocks. interesting, entertaining, edgy, very impressive. i wish i could count on daily updates though, because its entertainment value is a key aspect of making my working days seem less like some kind unabashed purgatory designed specifically to rape me of what remains of my creative inclinations. also, it helps to remind me that free-thought is the only thing we can count on, and that in the long run, having a job and making money are only icing on the cake.

in addition, niv, sorry we missed you at mike's wedding. it definitely had a last hurrah kind of quality that despite being blatantly chezzy, was actually kind of poingiant. glad to see you're doing so well though.

im online most of the day...onemnband is my aim, so drop me a line sometime.

peace and continued prosperity,
Zach Thomson

there are 3 user reviews on rollingstone.com for the incubus album and two of them are 4.5/5. one guy wrote a 1/5 and its hilarous because he uses all caps and so it seems like he's just some little kid yelling about how incubus is a pop band (which is basically what he does for a while) and then he writes- "MR.BOYD SOUNDS LIKE HE MAKES THEM UP TWO MINUTES BEFORE ENTERING THE SOUND BOOTH!!" when referring to the lyrics.

mr boyd?

yeah it was real funny to me, thats all i'm saying. i'd link to it here but the link is mega-long, so just trust me. go to www.rollingstone.com and look around, you'll find it.

have you seen me lately is an excellent song. i'm listening to it now. its incredible. god its so incredible.

if you'd stop being so lazy (or teach me html in 10 minutes or less) and get our music review thing going, you could give incubus 37 tamales!
