goddamn flats

2231-may05-2004
so i got a flat tire yesterday.
and boyyy was it an adventure
first adventure i've had for a while. that i can write about here, i mean.

so i wake up around 9. drive to cousens. notice loud noises and poor performance. realize back right tire is DEFLATED. now, when did this happen? don't know. it maybe happened sometime to or back from foxwoods monday night slash tuesday morning. yeah, probably. but it must have been a small leak, cuz it didn't affect performance at first, but it did deflate the tire all the way. so anyways, i walk back home, and jon and nick and i decide to tackle the flat when nick gets off work, around 4. i go to sleep. i wake up at 3. i get around to showering, and we revisit cousens at like 4:30 or so to fix the flat.

took us a while to find the jack.
took us a while to figure out how the fuckin wheels come off.
took us a while to realize we had to put the spare on, couldn't just replace the tire, even though i had two tires on hand.
once we got the spare on, we realized (fairly quickly) that the goddam spare was flat.
so around 5 i called AAA. the guy came around 5:30 and towed me over to pep boys. he gave me the choice of ntb and pepboys, and then said pep boys was cheaper. i'm an idiot. there's a reason they are cheaper.
the tow truck guy was nice. he liked godsmack. he was into the alternative rock scene. we had some good banter, good enough for me and a towtruck driver, i mean. i guess i'm pretty friendly or something.

(hold on, the tribe just lost, gotta switch to the spurs game.)

(naturally, godsmack - voices just came on. this track is amazing, and i listen to it entirely too much)

so i get to pepboys. the guy drops me off, and we part ways. i go in and talk to the pepboys guy. he's like "we can't put on your tires, we can only put on our tires. we can't be liable for your tires." serious. that's what he said. i spend a good amount of time freaking out about buying new tires, then realizing that i could just go to ntb, which 3 buildings up on the same street. i call ntb, they confirm they can mount and balance my tires, no problem. i go back to pepboys and stick it to the asshole at the counter. he looks sheepish. i win!

but we're not done yet. to get to ntb, i have to go right, make a u-turn, make another u-turn, and another right on a busy busy street. now, i have a flat spare tire on my back right wheel, and my car is rearwheel drive. i spend about 15 minutes calling people and deciding if i wanted to drive over to ntb. i decide finally to just get towed over there. i mean, it was free!

so around 6:45 the guy gets there. he's also real nice. i think theres a rule that towtruck guys have to be real nice straight up guys who look tough. it's a good thing to be, no doubt. we get over to ntb after making a few jokes about how the pepboys people were assholes. so around 7 i get to ntb, which closes at 8, and i get the tires taken care of.

the problem is that at 9 the senior week tickets go off sale. and i had to get tickets.

and i hadn't eaten all day.

but i got it all done, of course. wendy's was involved, as was eating wendy's in cousens gym.

hehe.

ok this post is nice and long and drawn out. but i feel i owe you guys something, cuz i haven't written here in FOREVER. the thing is, my life has taken a new direction, quite abruptly. i feel uncomfortable writing about it here, so i avoided the site for a while. but i'm back now. i think.
