ok let's start off with some internet technobabble

i just signed up for a del.icio.us page. these are basically online bookmarks. mine is over at del.icio.us/niv/. give it a quick look, it's pretty self-explanatory. might even interest some of you who like bookmarks and use multiple computers.

hawkenblog is back. there's a link on the right over there, so i'm not going to link to it here, but it's back, and chad and i are posting (along with nitin and some other guy i don't know). anyways, if you're into politics, check it out.

on to the music!

listening to franz ferdinand right now. it's pretty upbeat, the singer's accent is weird, but it's cool. very retro-cool-rock, like the strokes or the vines or the hives or any of those bands. except these guys are FRANZ FERDINAND, which, in addition to being a cool name, isn't just a noun. so that's nice. i'm liking them on this first listen through.
i've listened to like 4 new cds in the last two days. a quick rundown, in alphabetical order

atomship (the crash of 47) - very cool, louder than most of your tastes (other than geoff), and cool melodies for a hardcore band. let's go to the 10 tamale system - i give this one 8 tamales.

autopilot off (make a sound) - softer, i thought it'd be like punkpop but it wasn't quite. it was pretty generic i guess, and pretty forgettable, but still it didn't hurt my ears, so i can't give it below 5 tamales. i think the fact that i can't remember a single track (good or bad) and i listened to the whole thing this morning makes this album the posterchild of 5 tamale albums.

beastie boys (to the 5 boroughs) - well, i listened to this cd, and i realized i don't like the beastie boys. at least they didn't sell out? 3 tamales

bumblebeez 81 (the printz) - these guys are buzzworthy on mtv, and i remember seeing their video (with the sound somewhat low) and thinking, "damn, that's pretty cool". then i listened to the album with the sound not that low. it's really abrasive, and i saw some promise, but i think its an 'at the drive-in' situation, in that you need to listen to it 5000 times before you hear any of the amazing-ness behind this album. either that or it sucks. 4 tamales.

earshot (two) - another hardcore album, which is nice, 2 hardcore albums recently where my audioscrobbler has been reflecting my penchant for the beatles and other, lighter fare. i think my balls grew back between this cd and the atomship. anyways, i liked this one a LOT, the first 8 tracks were all really cool i thought. it just jived with my hardcore tastes i guess. 9 tamales.

franz ferdinand is going to be in the 8-10 range, i can tell already. its really good, i love how catchy and simple-sounding it is, even though i don't think the music is that simple. its not too hard, i bet a lot of you would like this one. i'm on track 10/11 right now.

music really took over this post. my friend zack has pointed me towards a gay-o-meter thing which i'll probably take when i get home because it is NOT AT ALL WORK-SAFE, so don't open it at work. and i still have to write about bball, but i'm sure i'll do that later. and i had one more thing to post about ... oh, photos. so this is my post plan - photos/gayness around 6 or 7, and then nba later on tonight during/after the game. and if there's anything else, it'll have to wait until tomorrow, cuz we can't spend it all in the same place. or something.

franz ferdinand gets 8-9 tamales

i sorta graded the albums relative to each other. like, given that the beasties got 3, earshot gets 9. given that earshot got a 9, atomship got a 8 and autopilot off gets a 5. i mean, i'm not comparing earshot to one of the best albums of all time. it's just significantly better than most of what i listened to today/yesterday. as was the ferdinand
