elscorcho.org update

1332-july27-2004
so now i've decided to focus on details. i talked to chad and ken a lot, and i think i've come up with a decent format for the commenting system. i hope it promotes discussion, and ongoing discussion, as you can see the latest comments, who they were by, and when they were posted.

i finally listened to birgit and geoff and got rid of the titles on the comments. i made everything optional, but there are default values if you, say, forget to enter your name or a title. makes it easier to spit out a comment though!

i show comment time relative to when the post was made. so there are two ways to measure when a comment was made - relative to now (on the sidebar) or relative to its parent post (on the respond page). whee!!

notice the timestamps on the posts now? full date, including the year (which i missed before for some reason), as well as a little rip-off of the most beautiful online journal on the internet, dunstan's. the rip-off has me showing the time in a friendlier way. you know, instead of "14:32", you'll see "afternoon" or whatever. it's nifty.

oh, so you might have noticed the headers for the posts getting larger. this is only in stoicmuenster, which by the way i'm pretty much focusing on. sorry, people who use other styles. maybe i shouldn't have told you all that. ha.

anyways, yeah, the post titles are larger, because they should draw your attention. i'll probably change that eye graphic, because it gives arjune nightmares and it draws too much attention from the content.

the final touch i just added today. now when you visit the site, a little cookie (yum!) is checked, and if any posts have been added since you last visited, a "new" label will appear next to those titles. it's hot, i just figured out the css so that the new appears where i want so i'm pretty happy with it. let me know if this is helpful? and yeah, the understated "new!" text will be replaced by an overstated image soon enough.

so, i'm happy with the changes. always looking for new stuff though. so i figure i'll probably make a new style sheet, one that encorporates more white and stuff, at some point in the future. i have other crap going on now though, including:

1) job hunt
2) second job, which pays me $25/hr for coding which i'm starting to realize i'm not fully qualified to do.
3) third job, which i have to make a proposal for this weekend so that i can actually secure it
4) WORKING FULL TIME AT MONSTER BUT NOT GETTING A FULL TIME PERMANENT POSITION OUT OF IT

blah! to monster

and yay! to elscorcho. i hope you guys enjoy the changes!

re: the eyes

don't do away with the eyes. i like the eyes. it adds some emotion to the site, which is otherwise fairly sterile (except for the sometimes wildly emotional text).

there is definitely a haunting, potentially nightmare causing, element to the eyes, but i like that, and i think it works.

chad called my design sterile :(

at least it was just the design...
