i live on fucking hoth

a few thoughts to complete my last post.

its snowing here again. well right now maybe it isn't. but another 8 inches or so fell today. this lead to a couple of observations.
1) when people dig out parking spots from the snow and it takes an hour or two, they feel like that spot should be _their_ spot. this is why i see things like lawn chairs and trash barrels and tables in the middle of otherwise perfectly fine parking spots. i didn't partake in this tradition after leaving the spot that i dug out, which turned out to be an time-wasting mistake - it took me about an hour both yesterday and today to find parking spots. however, i did get to witness what happens when someone takes someone elses dug-out, 'reserved' spot. i enjoyed the back and forth, with one person claiming the spot as reserved and the other saying that his 'reserved' spot was taken by someone else so tough luck. i started walking away when the word 'asshole' was dropped. naturally. anyways, what do you think about this tradition? should people be allowed to reserve spots? i don't do it... because i don't think its very sporting. i also don't think its sporting when people take up perfectly good street spots with cars they never fucking drive, but hey thats just me.
2) people walk in the street a lot when theres snow on the sidewalks. its annoying. its as annoying that no one takes the snow anywhere. i wish there was a plan like "let's scoop up this snow pile, put it in a dump truck, and drive it out to bumblefuck massachusetts and dump it". it's just snow. and it is taking up precious space. and the whole cycle leads to people walking on the streets (sidewalks aren't cleared or when they are the snow from people digging out cars slash plowing roads ends up on the sidewalks). anyways, just a rant

snow sucks. onward!

take one of your favorite bands.
what are your favorite five songs by said band?

let's say i took nirvana. i've been thinkin about this in terms of nirvana for a while. my top five songs would be:
1) breed
2) sliver
3) lithium
4) heart-shaped box
5) polly

feel free to leave your lists here. lists are fun.

my life has shifted dramatically. one year ago i was a second semester senior that did basically nothing. i relaxed, played video games, hung out with the guys, partied now and then, and generally had a ball of life. i knew that i'd soon have to "get serious" and work and shit. so i decided to enjoy college and just put no effort into anything other than other people, and i think it ended up ok. however, now my life is, as i somewhat predicted, the polar opposite of my life a year ago. i have a girlfriend and basically no close guy friends who live in the same city as me. i put a lot of effort into work, as opposed to the no effort put into school. i rarely if ever go out, just because the interest and energy are not there at all. 99% of my time with other people is spent with jen.

it has been a dramatic shift. i think a bit too dramatic. too much all at once.

at the same time, nothing is really _happening_

so my posts tend to not be that interesting.

anyways, i do still like writing out my thoughts. it's nicer than just having random thoughts on my drive to and from work and then just losing those random thoughts. doing that made me feel much more useless.

and no. people should not be allowed to save street spots. whether they spent five hours, or five minutes clearing it out. they want a dedicated spot, they should drop the $300 it costs to put the car in a garage.

saving spots is just plain wrong. It's called PUBLIC parking. As a matter of fact, if i needed a new table/garbage can, i would ABSOLUTELY take someone's spot reserver, park in their spot and keep the spot reserver. Once something is sitting on public property in the street, its sorta fair game, right?

I'd take the spot to, but you always worry about the person who shoveled it. Are you going to come back to your car the next day with one tire flat and a scratch down the side?
