october rust

type o negative... i'd heard the name. more than a few times. i always ignored them because i thought they were a dumb punk band. seems i had them confused with NOFX or something. anyways, type o's october rust is a damn fine cd. i have a few quibbles though. well, just one - why does every song end the same way? it's as if they just didn't feel like ending any of their songs; they all have this abrupt drop in volume at the end after a buildup/repetition thing with the main riff. you know what i'm talking about. like matthew good band or the beatles, trilling.

so aside from every song ending in the exact same fucking way, this cd is really good. i like how track 2 is just the band thanking you for gettin the cd. makes you feel bad for not buying it... i mean, if you didn't buy it. you thief. track 3, 'love you to death', is grea - by far my favorite song on the cd. its a slow, wonderful buildup with plenty of tension relieving "metal up your ass" parts scattered throughout. it's excellent. geoff really likes 'my girlfriend's girlfriend'. good for him, i guess.

the thing with type o it seems is that they don't have enough energy to create entire albums. they run out of ideas. songs end up sounding the same and end the same and there isn't a lot of lyrical strength... overall. i still like the cd but it might just be on the strength of 'love you to death' and 'green man' (a more traditional metal song) alone. if you are in to metal you should listen to this cd for sure. if you aren't, feel out the three songs i mentioned here and go from there. i can also strongly recommend a few type o songs from the new cd (life is killing me) - 'life is killing me' and 'i don't wanna be me' are excellent.

so go listen to type o negative. stop being such a wussy. seriously. stop it.
