obligatory weekend post

1849-june06-2005
so i just came off a nice long weekend, as i had friday off for working the previous weekend (memorial day weekend, no less). i did a few things

i played poker for the first time in a long while, possibly 5 months. i played two $40 buy-in NL holdem tournaments with some guys from work, mostly developers and quality assurance engineers. i ripped up the first tourney and won, but i made a crucial mistake in overplaying KK with an ace on the board in the second tournament and ended the day up $88 for about 6 hours of driving and playing. not that bad, i'd say. also, when you throw in the lunch of wings, ribs, and bread, as well as the coke that our host so graciously provided, it ended up being quite a perfect saturday afternoon. it was nice out for the first time in a long ass time, but it was worth staying inside and getting a little poker confidence.

saturday night i watched the kill bill movies with jen, back to back. i'd seen volume one a few times, but this was the first time i saw volume two. quick hit thoughts
1a) better than one, easily
2b) the amazingness of the pei mai chapter beat out the amazingness of the oren ishii chapter from volume one, though i do respect quentin tarantino's homages to both anime and kung fu
3c) the 7th chapter freaked me out in a huge way
4d) because of 2b and 3c i'd have to say that tarantino is still amazing

sunday, jen and i had an adventurous day. we drove up to middleton, massachusetts, about 45 minutes from here, and went to richardson's ice cream slash dairy farm. now, when you have cows out back and facilities for processing milk and whatnot, ostensibly the ice cream should taste amazing.

it did.

so no snarky comment.

anyways, i had a quality mint chocolate chip milkshake (frappe?) and jen had a huge soft-serve choco-vanilla cone. it was worth the drive. we continued northeast along 128 to gloucester, where we walked along the causeway above the beach to enjoy the pretty day. we saw cows and chicken and beach all along the north shore of boston on one day. that pretty much made up for me not going outside on saturday, i'd say.

also, i made two burgers sunday night.

burgers are amazing.

that's pretty much all i got. more of an informative post... but we'll have something a bit more fun later this week, i'm sure.
