i finally got my hands on the next foo fighters album, slated to come out next tuesday i believe. before i get into talking about it, however, let me address one thing.
i am getting spammed to hell. because of this, i'm considering two options
1a) no comments
2b) logins
of course, option 3c remains, do nothing.
so in your honor is a two disc album, 10 tracks each. the first cd is 'hard' and the second cd is acoustic. this fits in well with my notion of the band as being somewhat schizophrenic, or at least having a range. whichever. anyways, i listened to all 20 tracks straight last night before going to bed, and while i don't have an in-depth review, i have a possibly more fun bullet list of things that came to mind about this album.
first off, the first cd is awesome. it could probably stand on its own, though it would, as one may expect, be a little less varied than your typical foo fighters cd. the songs are all high tempo and in your face, as i guess you should expect from the 'heavy' cd. it's just... it's so good.
the second cd is a huge drop off in energy. it's almost like folk rock, it's so quiet and acoustic-y. i think my expectations and my rush from cd 1 both hurt the experience of cd 2. i am used to the foos playing their already electric stuff in acoustic, but i'm not as used to pure acoustic tracks, outside of the occasional one on colour and the shape. my mind is still open on cd 2, is the thing. i'll revisit it many, many times.
thirdly, listening to this yesterday with focus really made me realize how much my computer speakers suck. i really should remedy that.
so in conclusion - disc one is unequivocally awesome, disc two was a bit soft for me (and i really must emphasize for me because the general consensus is while i'm not into crazy death metal, i like slightly angrier music than the average listener), and my computer speakers suck ass.
in your honor

logins and cookies! so regular users don't get bugged to shit ;)
as for foo, I like the second CD. It's different, for obvious reasons, but it's nice to see a rock band be able to explore their diverse (skitzo!) side and still come up with something good.
