family vacation

so i'm off in madison, wi hanging with the fam, doing nothing of much importance, really. jen gets here wednesday night, but until then i've got very, very little to do. so i've found things to do. i bought a couple of books: moneyball and scout's honor, with freakonomics for good measure. moneyball took one and a half days to consume. it's truly excellent, but i don't want to write too much about it now. scout's honor is an attempt to argue against the moneyball approach, using the atlanta braves as the example (moneyball points to the oakland a's success). the point is that i'd like to read scout's honor and then write a nice post arguing about the approaches of both books. so, i'll do that soon.

i just found this.

thad has ensured me that he'll have a review of 10 years up very soon on music.elscorcho.org. check it out.

thad showed me this blog that focuses on yelling about terrible sportswriters and especially terrible baseball analysts. they focus their collective ire mainly on joe morgan, but a few other idiots get railed too - fire joe morgan. it's funny and good to read, especially as a kind of primer to the everyday application of the kind of sabrmetrics that are utilized by the oakland a's (moneyball).

can you tell i'm strong into baseball right now? the trade deadline passed without anything fun happening, the tribe is slipping out of contention, i'm up in MADISON of all places, and i'm more into baseball than i have been all year. i'm weird.

i can't be sure, but i think that's all i got for now.
