re: SHENANIGANS!
pistol whip me if you must, but i asked for a clearcut winner to the game last night from YOU on the PHONE and you SKIRTED the QUESTION with some obvious ANALYSIS but no real PICK
jerk
hehe
re: comment
i didn't claim to pick yesterday's game, just the series in general. no hard feelings. though half my analysis was spot on.
re: that is true
the oswalt being good slash mulder being blowned up half? that was more like 2/3rds of your analysis.
re: fuck houston
fuck the astros. i'm rooting for the white sox now because then it'll piss off both cubs and astros fans.
god, they aren't even good. imagine if we'd played well at all and had a healthy scott rolen.
re: comment
imagine if houston didn't have 3 of the best 5 starters in the NL...
re: comment
i'm not going to argue that they have 3 of the top (i'd say 6 because i think smoltz is better than at least one of those guys...and yeah i'm splitting hairs) pitchers in the NL. but st. louis' much less heralded starting pitchers (and houston's in backe) pictched just as well as houston's....except in game 6 and in morris' last inning in game 3.
with houston winning 2 one run ballgames i think that a healthy scott rolen in the lineup swings at least one of those ballgames. i know it swings game 3 because instead of luna throwing over molina on that play at the plate rolen probably makes that play, negating the winning run.
re: comment
Susie may have originated the "and a pony" meme, in a strip collected in Something Under the Bed Is Drooling (1988-04). Wondering why Calvin calls her "names for no reason? It's just mean," Susie wishes she had a hundred friends. "Then my hundred friends and I would go do something fun, and leave Calvin all alone! Ha! …and as long as I'm dreaming, I'd like a pony."the point is, phil, while you're dreaming about a healthy scott rolen, you should go ahead and ask for a pony.
re: comment
you're right that he's never absolutely healthy. that comes from playing the game the way he does, sacrificing his body defensively and on the basepaths. i would never want him to stop playing the game that way.
his health last postseason was not good at all. he had a bum knee and basically a severely strained calf muscle. he went hitless in the NLDS and in the WS but he was pretty good in the NLCS against houston's pitching, including a 2 run HR off clemens to win game 7. a perfectly healthy scott rolen is dreaming, a healthy enough to make a difference in the NLCS scott rolen isn't too hard to imagine.
re: while we are at it...
Ok, Phil...I'll see your Rolen and raise you one Jeff Bagwell. That probably swings a game as much as Rolen does, meaning that the Astros win this in 5, like they would have if Brad Lidge didn't have his first off day in TWO YEARS. And let's not forget that last year the Astros were without Pettitte in the playoffs (yes, I know Carpenter was hurt...St. Louis fans won't let anyone forget).
Quit whining, tip your hat to the better team, and enjoy what should be a great World Series.

" i know it swings game 3 because instead of luna throwing over molina on that play at the plate rolen probably makes that play, negating the winning run. "
except that luna threw that ball away because it was his first play in the game, because on the previous hitter, Nunez got taken out on a hard slide at third and missed two games.
using my handy-dandy Scott Rolen injury calculator, if rolen is in instead of nunez, that injury, instead of taking him out immediately and making him miss two days...ends his career on the spot.

re: comment
this guy had both the white sox and astros winning respective lcs's.
