my buddy andrew finished second in the $1500 NL borgata tournament last week.
i won the monster poker tourney last friday, and i was the only person at the table who eliminated other players. pretty dominating performance. i had one really interesting hand in which i knocked out one of the players that i consider to be very good. 5 handed and i was second to act. utg limped, as did i with 9dTd. button limped, sb completed, and bb (villian?) raised considerably. utg folds, i think about it and call - i put him on more of a "let's push around these limpers" play than an actual strong hand - button and sb get out of the way, and its heads up. i see a beautiful 9c 5d 4d flop and bet. i'm reraised all in, and i have to be ahead of almost every hand here... even against pocket aces with one diamond, i'm something like a 56-44 underdog, and against most holdings i'm closer to 50-50 or even a favorite. i call to see black jacks. the turn gives me a ten of hearts and i knock out my opponent, giving me a substantial chiplead and sending me on my way to victory.
unfortunately, the free $200+$15 tourney didn't go so well. the one key hand had me flopping top two pair with QT of spades on an all-diamond board. i bet strong and was reraised... and i called expecting to see AdTc, only to see... 7d8d and a made flush. i didn't get busted there, but it crippled me. it was a great experience though. i haven't felt that constantly mentally challenged by a poker game in a long time.
thad has some news too... which i think he should share.
i'm working on a couple of non-poker things. maybe one day one will come down the pipes. also, 48 days til vegas, and 58 days til the indians start their wire-to-wire 2006 al central campaign.

re: Aftermath
I actually drove up to Atlantic City to go see Drew the day after his tournament success. When I found Drew at the Borgata poker room, he was playing in a cash game with a min buy in of a grand. He had considerably more than that in front of him. What he also had was a smell that I wouldn't wish anyone to smell. He was RANK. Like he hadn't showered since he arrived in AC. He took a break to let me put my stuff in his hotel room (f'n nice room), where I advised him to throw on a little extra deoderant. He did not take my advice. He went on to place outside the cash in every other tournament that he played in that weekend. What does this mean? Glide something fresh under your armpits and you might be successful. (of course I have no idea how he smelled when he placed 2nd, but lets assume it was like roses, just to prove my theory).
Don't forget to mention that you donkeys are coming to Chocolate City (DC) in a few weeks.
