opening day != spring

1245-april05-2006
it is currently snowing heavily here. we're gonna have 3-4 inches when all is said and done i think.

so, opening day, which was either sunday or monday, depending on your view of things, does not equate to the beginning of spring. neither does 'springing forward', which happened last sunday (as everyone who is reading this is surely aware). i'm watching giant ass snowflakes fall by my window and wondering what the fuck is going on. stupid boston.

there was a short period of time in my life when snow was a good thing. it was incredibly short though, since snow wasn't really relevant when i lived in texas and we never really got days off from college due to snow... well, maybe once or twice actually. i just never enjoyed that "let's build snowmen and have a snowball fight" youth that other people had. i enjoyed the "let's drive our car into a ditch in geoff's neighborhood because i fucking hate snow" youth.

anyways, sunday night was terrible, but yesterday was a great game for the indians. game 3 is today in 1.5 hours, and taking 2 out of 3 from the (and i do not say this lightly) fucking hated chicago white sox would be a great way for the tribe to start the 2006 campaign. i think the indians are good for 89 wins and the central division championship. in the playoffs, all bets are off, but this team should get there.

it's nice to see aaron boone hitting like a madman right now. the tribe has a few guys in the wings that could help even a playoff team this year. the first one on the list has to be andy marte, the guy brought over in the coco crisp trade. if boone plays well, moving him to right to replace blake and having marte at third helps the indians immensely. blake could become a super-utility guy.... and then while i'm wishing for things, ryan garko can learn how to play first base defensively and then come up and replace ben broussard, who i have no hope for (unlike boone, broussard was never really that good). those are the two prospects i envision actually impacting the tribe this year. i don't think the pitchers (fausto carmona and jeremy sowers are the most ready) are going to be as big a deal just yet, but i might be proven wrong in the next 2 weeks when carmona starts pitching in the bigs, since fatty sabathia is hurt.

i really mixed between assuming the reader (that's you) knows about the indians this year and doesn't know about the indians this year in that last paragraph. i apologize.

i'm at a bit of a loss, reading that katie couric is going to be the new cbs evening news anchorwoman. beyond the whole 'is katie couric credible at all?' aspect, which i don't really care about (i guess eventually she will be?), i just don't understand what cbs is doing. they have the old person market cornered, what with the terrible television programs and the goddamn cbs filter that makes everything on cbs look washed out and dull. do old people love katie couric? wouldn't some old white guy have been better for the cbs target audience? is cbs trying to get a younger crowd? ok that's a dumb question, they have been trying for a younger crowd for the last 10 years. hey, cbs, fucking stop washing out all the colors in EVERY SINGLE THING YOU AIR, from sports to sitcoms to csi. seriously. stop it. NO, BAD CBS. it does more to kill your sex appeal than a thousand episodes of "everybody loves raymond."

which, by the way, is an excellent show.

i haven't posted photos yet. i'm a dirty liar. they'll get up at some point. i have fun pictures of my car in the parking lot here at work at 8pm (last one in the lot!) from two days ago, one from yesterday with my car in the lot at 730pm (i hope to not stay past 6pm again for a while), and some fun photos of the GIANT GODDAMN SNOW OUTSIDE MY WINDOW.

yay baseball!

thanks for indulging me.
