2006 nba playoffs part one

i've held off this long... but holy shit game 6 of the spurs-mavs game was awesome. where the cavs shot themselves in the foot with the inability to get a loose ball, the mavs couldn't do anything because the spurs defense finally clamped down in an effective way. of course it helped tremendously that terry was suspended, and it helped tremendously that dirk got his shoulder banged up in the fourth and refused to shoot the ball for a couple of possessions, but devin harris was ineffective for the first time since he broke into the lineup, and stackhouse became irrelevant really fast.

if the spurs defense plays that well in game 7, the spurs can plan on hosting the suns or clippers. parker and duncan will play better, so even if ginobili doesn't follow up his amazing game with another amazing game, the spurs will easily hit the 95+ points they need to beat the mavs when their defense is working.

on the other hand...

that cavs game sucked. they had POTENTAL OPPORTUNITIES that weren't even realized as opportunities because they couldn't get a rebound. now, greg anthony after the game said something about the 'veteran pistons valuing the ball more' or some bullshit. i don't get why weird bounces and ben wallace being strong and tayshaun prince being really fucking long gets chalked up to experience and cagey veterans beating out the young guns. seriously, just say that they got lucky, tayshaun prince and ben wallace are good at getting enough of the ball to mess things up, and flip murray is a terrible rebounder and tried so hard to get that ball (after the previous 2 disasters) that his momentum fucked up everything.

in other words, instead of PROJECTING PSYCHOANALYSIS ONTO THE GAME, fucking review the actual physics of what happened and talk about how, when you were a player greg fucking anthony, you did or did not do the same things as flip murray. in other words, GIVE US INSIGHT INTO PLAYING THE GAME, YOU GODDAMN FORMER PLAYER TURNED COMMENTATOR.

insight is what we need. not faux-psychoanalysis that someone who read the description of sports psychology at the local community college (or read the tripe that sports columnists generally come up with every fucking day) could come up with.

ok i got a little fired up there. greg anthony's a goddamn punk though.

thanks for indulging me.
