so i watched a couple of movies recently:
1a) on the waterfront - amazing, amazing movie. brando is incredible. try watching an average or not so good movie from 1954. brando's just on another plane from all the other actors, i think. highly recommended
2b) miami vice - oh michael mann, your dialog in heat was so good. what happened? dialog sucks, action is slick enough (if a little over the top) and lots things were left unanswered. not a great movie. like a gritty version of bad boys II, complete with a random visit to cuba. bad boys II was, of course, a gritty version of bad boys, which was just awesome.
3c) half of dr. zhivago - the jury's out, but not a great sign when the first scene that grabs my attention pops up at the 1hr45min mark of the movie. though, it is a 3hr20min movie, so there's still potential.
had a bit of a weird weekend too. friday night, 11pm, geoff and i are (as all the cool kids tend to do) mired in an awesome game of civ 4, and i hear a knock on my door. jen's out with co-workers, so i go and check the door, and ... the realtor who helped me find my new place was there? inviting me to a party upstairs?
allow me to digress for a moment and mention that the fucking other people in my new place do not take the trash out to the curb EVER. they are useless jerks.
anyways, i respectively declined, but it led to a little hilarity when jen and one of her friends from home returned from their night out. i told jen that the realtor (who is 27 tops) was by and invited me to a party upstairs, and she insisted that he was "like, thirty" over and over again. i guess it's more hilarious if you actually ever met our realtor.
saturday was spent loafing and eventually watching the aforementioned miami vice at the revere showcase cinemas. not a bad theater, but are sbarro's, ben and jerry's, and a pretzel place all really required in a movie theater lobby? yeah, i guess so.
jen and i were planning on going to the cape on saturday, but due to hungoverness and jen's unexpected friend from home, we missed our opportunity to see the cape cod league all-star game. instead, we left around noon yesterday and went down to falmouth for a little walking around and fried seafood, and then on to cotuit for the cotuit-brewster game. some notes, quickly:
1a) ben and bill's chocolate emporium (or is it bill and ben's?) has the best goddamn milkshakes on earth. they don't add syrup. perfect consistency - not too thick, but not milky/watery at all. delicious flavors. i had mint chocolate chip. HIGHLY HIGHLY recommended. possibly more than on the waterfront.
2b) cotuit's team is really good, even if their nickname is the kettleers.
3c) i also highly recommend seeing where cotuit plays, "historic lowell park" (which the announcer said about 25 times before the 6th inning, at which point the scoreboard died and the pa system went for total radio silence... or maybe the power went out, whichever).
4d) i took a ton of pictures from our seats on the first base side of home plate. i should have at some point moved over towards where the road dugout was, in order to get more pictures without the fence in the way. i never did. alas.
finally, finally, finally - i'm working on hacking my v3m razr because verizon sucks ass.
thanks for indulging me.
