the concert was really, really, really good.
rather than bring up everything that happened in painstaking detail, i will 'borrow' from other sites across the internet, as that is why the internet exists. feel free to read the phoenix review and this really detailed fan review.
done? yeah i didn't think you'd read them. come on, i'll wait.
seriously.
ok, fine, be a dick. i took a bunch of pictures from really high up, and a couple of videos. i'll share the videos via youtube and post the photos in the normal place sometime tonight or tomorrow. i'm not sure how they'll turn out, because i was really far back. however, the benefit was that the sound on the balcony was fuckin excellent - by far the best sound i've ever experienced at a rock concert. granted, i usually partake of louder bands with mosh-type areas, but still.
there are two overwhelming feelings i had during the show and after the show. the first was that i wish jen didn't decide to go home this week. i had her ticket in my pocket and her seat remained empty to my left through the whole show. i really, really wish that she had been there, but that's the danger with buying concert tickets right when they go on sale - either the show sells out or you run the risk of your date skipping town. i jest, i jest.
the other feeling is best summarized by this snippet i emailed zach earlier today:
after it endedand like i told geoff last night - when you go to a concert, and the damn headliner plays for 2 hours and hits a couple of your favorite songs and even plays a b-side that you like and didn't see coming at all... and you still wish the show would go on for another 2 hours, you really went to the most perfect concert for you ever.
i was really sad
that i wasn't friends
and never would be friends
with dave grohl
the "for you" part is important. consider: one of my top 3 bands, in a storytellers like atmosphere (brainy instead of the normal brawny), more interesting, musical arrangements (less straightforward) - it really appealed to me in every way at this time in my life. not that i don't like the straightforward driven rock anymore. ok i'm really digressing now.
so in summation, the concert was really, really, really good. is that a summation or a repetition?
a few more specific notes:
- "razor" was the first song. i always thought it would make a good track one to in your honor. obviously, mr. grohl thought similarly, as they are starting the vast majority (if not all) of the shows on this tour with "razor." do you see how this was the most perfect show for me ever, yet?
- third song was "marigold", an old old song that is considered, at once, a nirvana b-side, a foo fighters b-side, and an a-side on an old cassette that dave grohl released on his own between nirvana's end and the foos' beginning. this song is excellent and was introduced as "fucking old," which it really is. i didn't see this song coming at all
- "everlong" as the last song of the entire show, after the encore? yeah, didn't see that coming one bit. at least everyone else loves that song just like i do. everyone i know loves it except arjune. ha ha! inside joke.
- people liked "my hero" way too much. like, what's to love about that song at all? i don't really get it. it reminded me of this time in high school when i was driving sandeep and sinead... somewhere, and sandeep was yelling at me to put on "that hero song" and i put on... the verve pipe. remember them? that's right, motherfucker, we were only freshmen. anyways, sandeep got real confused, and sinead (i think) figured out that he wanted the foo fighters song. which, even then, i found unremarkable.
- "skin and bones" is apparently the foo fighters equivalent of bon jovi's "dead or alive". yeah.
ok that's it and that's all. i'll update again when i get photos/videos uploaded (might be a bit).
thanks for indulging me.
update: tribe just came back from a 10-1 first inning deficit (a word i used to know how to spell without answers.com) to take the 14-13 lead in the 10th inning. game's not over yet, but i'm really glad to see this team show some heart. MORE RELEVANT TO THE POST, HOWEVER, is that i posted photos of the concert (and the the patriots game, for that matter). videos will take a while longer.
update 2: tribe won 15-13 in 10.

re: not adding up?
It's just like in the old days - I used to compose my own critical notices in my head.

bought my tickets when they went on sale too -- May 19. interestingly enough, my girl didn't decide to split in time for the show. unused tickets, empty seats tsk tsk and all that.
it was a sweet show, though.
