so freshman year i bought this lamp. no, the pic isn't from freshman year, but that lamp on the right is. anyways, i got this lamp from urban outfitters for maybe $20. after a week of owning this lamp, one of the kids across the hall from thad and me stormed in with a goddamn napkin and taped it to the lamp, because the dangling chain kept hitting the body of the lamp, ruining the muted din of the hallway and rendering him unable to study. that dick.
so the lamp survived college, including south hall and both years over on warner street. it survived the move to clarendon, and to brighton, and even back to somerville. goddamn, i've lived in this city a long ass time. even the damn napkin on the lamp survived until the second year over in brighton (sorry ajay, you dick).
so i think you see where this story is going, but tuesday i pulled the chain to turn the lamp off, just as i had pulled it every day i've lived in boston since 2000. this time, however, the chain clean came out of the damn lamp. i'm sure it's repairable if i take some time and look at it, but for now, my $20 urban outfitters lamp is dead.
i guess this is growing up.
fucking lamps

it involved lots of going to colin and steveweiser's room, plus lots of computer use, plus we were freshman and didn't know any better.

my lucky blue shirt i got sr. year of high school is all frayed around the collar. i guess that's not relevant, but its still sad, just like the lamp story.

i remember being kind of jealous of your lamp. i had it in my hellish room in the hellish summer of 2001 in that hellish house on college ave. and i wanted to keep it. i'm sorry its dead.

i know i left the lamp with you, i didn't know you used it, and i am thankful that you left the paper napkin on the lamp.

*moment of silence*
so i was thinking the other day, how the fuck did we possibly make it through all of freshman year without a TV in our room? and i mean a real tv, not that tiny-white-antenna bullshite.
