let me lay waste to thee

1153-march02-2007
going to see tv on the radio tonight. i'm pretty excited, for all the obvious reasons. 7pm, avalon, i'll try and take a ton of pictures.

sunday it all goes to hell. fantasy baseball draft, the second iteration. i won last year, but a) i did that by trading my future for a ton of guys that i couldn't keep and b) it was a 8 team field last year, but we've expanded to 12 this year. the league is an intense one invented (mostly) by geoff. 40 man rosters, $400 salary cap, you keep everyone. mixed league, 8 stats - HR/R/OBP/SLG for hitters and ERA/WHIP/K/TBA for relievers. i can give more details, but i think everyone who reads this site and cares that much about baseball is in the league. anyways, the auction-style draft could take anywhere from 4 to 8 hours, and post-draft i'm pretty much 100% in baseball mode. hopefully i can turn that into a few quality posts in this very, very busy month of march.

let's outline march's weekends real quick:
mar 2-4, tv on the radio, fantasy baseball draft
mar 9-11, possibly foxwoods, definitely lots of ncaa conference tourneys
mar 16-18, first weekend of ncaa tournament, might have to work from home
mar 23-25, vegas!
mar 30-apr 1, tourney, opening day

how is a sports fan supposed to concentrate at all during this month? it's fucking overload.

i've sort of into this harvard extension school course i'm taking in java development. the first two homeworks have pretty much covered all the java i know in the world, so it's going to get pretty intense shortly. it feels nice to program again.

how scattershot can i be without a single fucking transition?

i've gotten some quality time in with the wii and here are some impressions. i considered titling the post "wii-pressions" but then i threw up and realized it was because i hated puns. anyways, onward to impressions:
a) wii sports is incredible. i don't know if any other game is really necessary for the wii right now. i have high hopes for the wii after this christmas, but right now wii sports gets the most attention by far.
b) i played madden briefly yesterday - i did the tutorials and played one game and kicked the bengals ass. the menus felt like "madden for kids" but the game worked surprisingly well. i liked how there was no safety net - you can't press a button to pass the ball, you have to flick your wrist and thus you have to learn quickly. the most fun - running the ball, since jukes and stiff arms are implemented really well. the coolest wii-specific feature - a tie between waving the controllers up and down to control crowd noise and waving the fair catch signal to ... signal a fair catch. i didn't phrase that right, but you get my drift. both very cool
c) haven't played warioware yet.
d) elebits is not worth $50, but is probably worth $30.
e) not wii related per se, but i beat zelda and the last boss is so, so awesome. well done, nintendo. well f'n done.
f) the 360 has used for actual gaming maybe 3 seperate times since i bought the wii - not much at all.

so what should i write about here? clearly, it was originally intended as a journal to my life. my life as it exists now is simple and boring however: i watch sports on tv, i play video games, and i follow baseball with a weird obsession. i take pictures and listen to music, but i (obstensibly) have other sites for both of those endeavors. so, either we get: a) scattershot insane rambly posts like this one, or b) i can flesh out thoughts and write epics by focusing more on one topic. i could rotate through topics. maybe i'm answering my own question.

the real question is (and always has been and always will be) this: does anyone else care?

it was more fun when that question was just implied in everything i wrote.
