opposite of the intended effect

when a song gets stuck in my head, i tend to listen to it as soon as possible, just so it can be purged and i can move on. i think this is a generally effective strategy, and i imagine most people act similarly. however, there is one fatal weakness - one song that cannot be tamed by a quick listen or even repeated listening.

that song is 'in a big country' by big country.

my last.fm hasn't updated quite yet, but i've listened to this freaking song more than enough times to purge it in the past 2 days, and yet it remains. please, someone, help me.

almost every day this month and most of last month the city of somerville has been digging holes right outside my house. the road i live on is being reconstructed and it is fucking killing me. i'm not sure if there is an end in sight. seriously, every morning jen and i wake to construction and walk outside to see 4-5 guys in orange vests and a cop and a giant fucking tonka truck. a few times they were working on the sidewalk directly in front of our house, which meant digging a giant moat where the sidewalk used to be, and creating quite the perilous walk to the T/my car in the morning. obviously there's nothing to be done about this, but i think the sheer absurdity deserves to be shared.

foxwoods this weekend, AC next weekend. i plan on a decent amount of poker, some craps, and hopefully very little blackjack. my casino plans always fall apart though. the AC trip is kind of epic - 8 people, two rooms, my first big live tourney, and 3(!!) nights at the borgata. it's kind of insane.

finally, i'm headed to grill 23 tonight - the only acclaimed boston steakhouse that i haven't visited yet. the idea of steaks makes me salivate - i think the last steakhouse i visited was with trilling during the gay vegas vacation.

that's enough brain dumping for now.
